ECE certification
The Economic Commission for Europe, a subordinate organization to the United Nations, is headquartered in Geneva. Its purpose is to eliminate trade barriers among European states and encourage economic development in these states. The members of ECE jointly enact regulations that govern vehicle components, a.k.a. ECE Regulations. It is composed of 114 clauses, from R1 to R 113 and RE3. Each regulation describes the testing standards and related requirements for a specific set of components. A product, upon undergoing and passing several tests, would be certified by the ECE.
